Carmen Washington, also known as Tina, is the founder of a
new natural hair blog called www.curlyhairchic.com. She was born in Fairfax, Virginia to
Jamaican parents. She has 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Her foreign parentage
allowed her the benefit of traveling back and forth to the country since she
was a little girl.
Tina has a son who is 16 and will be a senior in high school next year. He plans to attend college straight out of high school which makes his mom very proud. He enjoys making music and is pretty serious about making it a career.
Recently retired from a career as a Reimbursement Specialist, she decided to create her own business in order to stay flexible enough so that she could care for her mom who just turned 80. Her website CurlyHairChic.com discusses natural hair care tips, hairstyles, and everything natural. She began this website after recently going natural and falling in love with her natural hair. She has been a hair enthusiast for over 15 years and has loved learning about caring for her relaxed hair but now she’s learning about her natural hair.
Her personal favorite words to live by are "all things are possible through Christ." She says she is in love with God and tries to make sure she puts him first in all areas of her life. Currently, she is partnering with one of her favorite ministries; her goal is to someday be in a position where she can do mission work as a way to aid in helping others.
My transition to natural started in February 2014. I transitioned for 9 months and decided to big chop November 4th, 2014.
I decided to go natural because I'm on a mission for total self acceptance and going natural became a no-brainer for me. It released me from so many mental beauty constraints that I didn't even know I had.
very slim with hair products. I don't use many but my current 2 staples are
TreSemme conditioner for co-washes and coconut oil to seal in moisture. I'm
also loving the Crece Pelo deep conditioning treatment.
My favorite hairstyle is the puff. It's cute and easy which works for me. I also love a wash and go which is also easy.
