She currently works at an Aveda Salon called Tangerine in Nashville and also styles for weddings and photo shoots.
Like many stylists,
she started her journey as a hair stylist while in college to make extra money.
She began interning at a natural hair salon called Naturally You during the
summer. The owner saw that she had a passion for hair and offered to pay her deposit
to a Natural Hair Stylist program at school called Shear Majik. After
graduating from Austin Peay State University with a bachelor’s degree in
Business Management and a minor in dance as well as completing the Natural Hair
Stylist program at Shear Majik, she decided she would pursue a full license in
cosmetology. She received her Cosmetology License from Aveda Institute in
Nashville, TN this year.
She claims she is currently unmarried with a purpose. A very tenacious business woman, she inherited this acumen from her late father who passed in December of 2004. He was always encouraging her to pursue her goals. Just this year, she earned second runner up in the cut and style portion of the Beacon contest and received the highest sales per service “Ticket of the Month” at the Aveda Institute Nashville.
From her mom, she
received her artistic ability. “My mom is my best friend and an awesome mother.
We are always there for each other and support each other in everything that we
Her parents are both Jamaicans. She was born in Miramar, Fl.
Even while hard at work in the beauty business, she still has time to give back to her community as she is currently working on a natural hair meet up group called "Back to the Basics" within the next few months. This event will help those who are transitioning as well as provide basic hair care advice and styling tips.
As an official Black
Natural Hairstyles consultant, she is also the stylist being featured at the
first Hair Lounge event on Monday, August 18. The Hair Lounge is an intimate,
judgment-free conversation space where naturalistas gather virtually to address
their hair concerns to a natural hair expert.
Simone is also preparing to go to Cape Town, South Africa for a Ten Days Missions Trip where she will be doing college campus outreach as well as partnering with a non-profit organization called Thembalitsha to provide tutoring, Vacation Bible School and much more.
A strong Christian,
she is passionate about seeing people come into a relationship with Jesus by
just sharing what He has done in her life. She encourages every woman to
embrace her natural beauty, “not just the outside but from the inside first.”
She believes her work is her calling and espouses Colossians 3:23 as her motto, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men."
I began transitioning in 2007.
It was actually on "accident.” I was already stretching how often I get relaxers and my stylist at the time told me I could either grow my relaxed out or continue to stretch how often I get it and I would be just fine. The spring of 2007 I decided to stop getting relaxers and just wear my hair straight. In 2010 I saw my curl pattern for the first time and began my true natural hair journey from there, rocking my curls and loving it ever since!
I am really liking the DevaCurl Line (shampoo, conditioner, gel, leave-in)
Too many to name! But I am currently loving flat twist outs and I love
