Originally from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Maxine Cabrall migrated to the United States in 1983.
She secured her first job in her new country five years later and saw how her then boss lived. She would go shopping during the day then return with bags from stores that Maxine could not afford.
“I told myself, I want that life,” said Maxine. “At that time. I decided owning my own business was the way to go.”
Her love for children and the flexibility of working at home became very attractive to Maxine. So, she ventured into the daycare industry. Now, she is the owner of Family Life Daycare in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn offering 24-hour childcare services. She enjoys the privilege of giving back to children by caring for them, by providing service to parents who work non-traditional hours and offering school supplies to school-age children. Her greatest impact has been influencing the children she cares for--from 6 weeks to kindergarten.
“It’s wonderful knowing I've taken part in the early stages of their lives socially, emotionally, academically and the permanent bond that is formed with them and their parents,” said Maxine.
Besides being an entrepreneur, Maxine has been married for eight years and has a 22-year-old son. She has five sisters, one brother and a large extended family spanning the Caribbean islands.
Maxine has been a born again Christian and a member of Kingdom Life Ministries International for the past 15 years. There, she has served in a variety of capacities from the special events committee to teaching Sunday school. Currently, she serves as a member of the finance team, supervises a team at the member’s care service desk and serves as an assistant administrator to Apostle Peter Bonadie.
In 2009, she received the top award in her church's yearly member award ceremony as the most outstanding all around worker of the year. She believes she has been able to bless others because of the blessing God has given her.
“Many have said I am a positive and encouraging influence to them,” said Maxine. “This in itself is an accomplishment for me.”
I've been natural for 2 1/2 years.
I wanted to give my hair a break from chemicals, it was meant to be a temporary situation but when I saw how wonderful it looked and the many compliments I received, I decided to make it permanent.
The product my hair dresser uses that I like most is Keracare for natural hair.
My favorite hair style is the curls I get using straws.
