Who is Kara-Lisa Freeman?

Kara-Lisa Freeman, 25, is a budding wardrobe stylist/ image consultant and a lover of all things fashion. She is the founder of 21stvintage, a fashion branding company located in Nashville, TN. Headquartered in the country and gospel music capital of the world, Kara-Lisa has capitalized on the large amount of musicians seeking to brand or jazz up their style for photo shoots and live shows.  Nashville's songwriter and musician Meredith Blis has been her client. From musicians to business professionals to 2-year-old toddlers, 21stvintage is known for its edgy wardrobe styling and makeovers as well as fashion forecasting and personal image consultation. Kara-Lisa hopes to add makeup artistry and fashion photography to her suite of services very soon.

Unlike many people, Kara-Lisa didn't know this would be her passion/purpose until she was about 21 years old. She was studying to be an English teacher but just wasn't satisfied, so she took a break from school to really seek out her calling. She is now passionate about renovating people’s closets and putting together the perfect outfits for the style-challenged. She loves giving advice on a healthy fashion lifestyle and image.

Kara-Lisa grew up on the beautiful island of Barbados. At 12, she and her family migrated to Florida where she was privileged to grow up with many different cultures that truly inspired her. She comes from what many people call the Cosby family because of how tight-knit of a family they are. Her parents have been together for 30+ years. She has two older brothers, Matthew and Creig, sister in law Angela and two nieces Alyssa & Analise.

She attends The Art Institute of TN-Nashville, is on the dean’s/president’s list and is currently the student ambassador of the fashion program.  She has hosted the Nashville fashion show, “The Gentle Storm.” She volunteers at several different fashion shows yearly and also ministers to the little ones at her church on Wednesdays and Sundays.

She feels her greatest impact on the world is “making sure to smile and grow in God daily...to always be remembered as someone who loved others and whom others loved.”

Her words to live by are found in the book of Proverbs 13:12: "Hope deferred make the heart sick but a dream fulfilled is like a tree of life.”

She wants the world to know that: Fashion is how you see it, make sure to make it a great visual story! :)

How long have you been natural?

4 years strong. I'm not exactly to the length I want but being natural takes patience and learning your hair.

Why did you decide to go natural?

I've always enjoyed looking different and the versatility of my style of clothing, so I wanted a way to incorporate my hair into it. I also wanted something that was healthy for me and that could turn into a lifestyle.

What is your fave styling product?

Shea Moisture and Curls unleashed as well as coconut and olive oils. And of course water!

What is your fave natural hairstyle?

Opened 3 strand twist and I've come to enjoy my puff. I also enjoy my protective goddess braids and adding accessories like scarves.
